ABOUT Michael
Michael is a music teacher, performer, and accompanist residing in Burlington. He is an active contributor to several music and performing arts communities throughout Ontario, including classical, musical theatre, choral music, European folklore, and contemporary/popular music. Since beginning piano and voice lessons at age 6, he has acquired a great deal of musical knowledge. In addition to private lessons, he also studied music and education in post-secondary school, first at Mohawk College, where he earned his OCAD certificate in Applied Music (Classical Piano), and then at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he earned his Honours Bachelor of Music (Education). In his spare time, Michael also works with several music communities as a performer, private instructor, and accompanist. Through his efforts, he has earned many scholarships and certificates – including his ARCT in Piano Performance through the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Canadian Croatian Choral Society (CCCS) Scholarship Award – and worked with a number of accomplished performing arts organizations, such as Brott Festival, Theatre Aquarius, and the Bach-Elgar Choir.
Michael has experience teaching music to children ages 6 and up in both private and group settings, and applies a holistic mindset to his lessons, using components such as music theory, ear training, rhythm, emotional expression, and physical expression to enhance students’ musicality. He strives to connect with students, learning about their interests and abilities, and working with them to find music that resonates with them.
Michael is grateful for the opportunity to work with HCA and help students realize their musical potential as well as gain a deeper appreciation of the performing arts.
