About Zorica

Zorica was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She studied art at Sheridan College where she completed the Art Fundamentals Program. After which she graduated from the Interpretive Illustration Program where she focused on children’s book illustration.

Since graduating Sheridan in 2002, she has been pursuing a career in the arts. Zorica has illustrated several children’s books, participated in many exhibitions both locally and internationally and taught art at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and currently teaches art at the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas Ontario. In 2003 she co-founded the Az Collective, which focuses on ideas of space, time and nature.

Inspired by a variety of things such as nature, people, architecture, animals and fairy tales. Her paintings reflect her love of colour and story telling. Aiming to capture moments in time with a focus on colour, pattern, composition, whimsy and narrative. Since becoming a mother, she has been reflecting on the nature of motherhood and how that directly affects being an artist.

She is a member of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, formally serving as Vice President and Exhibitions Chair.

Living in the countryside has offered daily inspiration in the exploration of nature and our relationship with the environment.

Currently she is exploring the use of natural pigments found in the local landscape. Foraging plant materials from her property and around the Hamilton area and Haldimand-Norfolk County she creates Eco-Prints on paper and on cotton fabric.
