About André Laplante
Pianist André Laplante is a commanding recitalist, a chamber musician of distinction, and a concerto soloist of formidable virtuosity guided by a rare musical intelligence.
Hailed as one of the great romantic virtuosos, he has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and has released a series of ever more impressive CDs. He garnered international attention after winning prizes at the Geneva and Sydney International Piano Competitions and capturing the silver medal at the International Tchaïkovsky Competition in Moscow and making his debut at Carnegie Hall. Critics have compared him with Ashkenazy, Horowitz and Rudolph Serkin, placing him in the elite circle of virtuoso pianists who do not hesitate to take risks.Mr. Laplante has worked with such distinguished conductors as John Storgårds, Kent Nagano, Sir Neville Marriner, Jacques LaCombe, Sergiu Comissiona, Rudolph Barshai, Fabien Gabel, Alexander Mickelthwate, Andrew Davis, Kazuoshi Akiyama, Tatsuya Shimono, and the late Sir Yehudi Menuhin among many others. He has appeared widely in Europe, Asia, the U.S., and at Canadian and international festivals.
