Junior Acting

 

Junior Acting teaches character development, improv and performance technique in a program built for students exploring acting for the first time! This upbeat, creative class lets students uncover how their unique qualities can influence their performance through improv, collective creation, text study and rehearsal. Students will build confidence, develop their creative voice, and celebrate their unique controbutions to an ensemble. This class provides several opportunities to perform in invited studio performances throughout the year, including a final production in the HCA Black Box Theatre.

TERM ONE: Theatre Craft & Improvisation
TERM TWO: Collective Creation & Playwriting
TERM THREE: Set the Stage: Rehearsal and Spring Studio Performance Series

TAKE THE STAGE! This program culminates in an invited presentation in June in the HCA Black Box Theatre.

PLEASE NOTE: This program will require attendance at dress rehearsals and performances in May and/or June (dates TBA).

Payments can be made each month.

Monthly payments for Junior Acting are $143.62/month

Payments can be made three times per year, at the start of each school term.

The term payment for Junior Acting is $478.72/term

Registration Fee (Single Student): $30

Registration Fee (Family): $50

Production Fee: $50 in Term Three. This fee covers all rehearsal-related expenses, including printing, technicians, small props, and other production needs.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Stephanie Hope Lawlor

Stephanie Hope Lawlor is professional actor and teaching artist based in Hamilton. She has worked across the golden horseshoe in shows like Whale Fall, Every Brilliant Thing, Mary’s Wedding, Venus in Fur, Salt-Water Moon, Ronnie Burkett’s Provenance, Doctor Faustus, Much Ado About Nothing, The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, The Sound of Music, Snow White, Dreamgirls, Evita, Little Women and Assassins. She is a graduate of the Randolph College for the Performing Arts in Toronto and McMaster University.

A true Hamiltonian at heart, Stephanie is the Artistic Director for independent theatre company Rook’s Theatre with the mandate to foster professional theatre in Hamilton by creating clear, story-driven work. She is a founding member of The Actor’s Forge, an artists training collective that provides space and resources for professional theatre artists in Hamilton.

As a teaching artist Stephanie has taught for over 10 years, teaching acting, movement, voice, scene study and improv to students aged 6 – 76 in Hamilton, Toronto and Calgary. She also privately coaches young actors preparing auditions for college-level theatre training (some of her students have gone on to study at Sheridan College, Randolph Academy, George Brown College, and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama).

Stephanie strives to create a safe class environment for students of all ages to explore, collaborate and find their creative voices.
